Their approach is comprehensive, involving mind, body and community – wherever you are on your personal journey.
Friends of Ruby Home features a drop-in centre, barrier-free counselling, practical support programs and meals. It's housed in a brand new, purposefully designed 7,500 square feet space at 257 Dundas St. East and provides support to over 100 young people a month. For more information visit www.friendsofruby.ca
Located in downtown Toronto, the Friends of Ruby Home is a transitional house providing housing and support services for vulnerable LGBTQI2S youth. Designed by YabuPushelberg and built by Daniels Corporation, AyA Kitchens provided the communal kitchen and pantry cabinetry in support of this wonderful project.
The kitchen space is 600 sq ft with a massive 19'-0" x 6'-0" island featuring quartz countertops, multiple appliances and two fridges, wall ovens, microwaves, sinks, cook-tops, dishwashers and more. The space is a high traffic kitchen which requires the finishes to be very durable, forgiving and easy to maintain/clean. AyA's Bowery Avenza textured melamine with a wood look is incorporated with push-to-open doors and drawers eliminating having to grasp hardware. Hidden inset handles are used for the tall pantry doors, one leads to a 'secret' walk-in-pantry. The island is wheelchair accessible with dual height work spaces and under counter clearances for full access to the sink and eating areas.
A well thought out kitchen space with a symmetrical layout that utilizes universal design features to make the space accessible to those with disabilities. A communal kitchens that is both modern and functional for all to enjoy.
